ndianola is located about halfway between Port Lavaca and Port O'Connor. It was once the second-largest port on the Texas coast. During the mid-1800s, thousands of settlers and tons of cargo were landed here bound for points inland. The town was completely destroyed by a hurricane in 1886 and never rebuilt. Today, little remains of this once thriving port.
The low lying areas around Indianola contain a number of small saltwater lakes and bayous. The Alamo/Indianola/Magnolia Beach Kayak Trails were established to allow fisherman and nature lovers to explore these areas. In addition to excellent fishing, the area is well known birdwatching spot and includes several sites on the Texas Coastal Birding Trail.
